EU decides to impose final five-year anti-subsidy duties on Chinese electric vehicles


According to CCTV News, on October 29th local time, the European Commission announced that it had ended its anti-subsidy investigation and decided to impose a final anti-subsidy tax on electric vehicles (BEVs) imported from China for a period of five years.

The relevant decision is expected to be announced in the Official Journal of the European Union on the 30th local time, and the anti-subsidy duties will be officially implemented on the 31st.

The sampled Chinese export producers will be subject to the following countervailing duties:

  • BYD: 17.0%
  • Geely: 18.8%
  • SAIC Motor: 35.3%

Other companies that cooperate will be subject to a 20.7% tariff. After filing an individual review request, Tesla will be subject to a 7.8% tariff. All other non-cooperative companies will be subject to a 35.3% tariff.
The temporary tariffs imposed on July 4, 2024 on electric vehicle imports from China will not be imposed.
