Spain increases imports of Dutch piglets by 17%

If the current growth trend continues, Spain’s piglet imports from the Netherlands could surpass 2 million by the end of 2024.

As of the first nine months of 2024, Spain has imported 1,557,518 piglets from the Netherlands, representing a 16.9% increase compared to the same period in 2023, and a growth of over 115% compared to 2020.

In contrast, imports of Dutch pigs have decreased. Between January and September 2024, Spain imported 4.3% fewer pigs compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 27,021 head—significantly below the record of 78,387 head during the same period in 2022, and 12.9% less than five years ago
